Riojasaurus incertus

Watercolour, colour pencil. 2023.

This is a highly speculative reconstruction of the animal, and as such many details are fabricated.

A prosauropod from the late Triassic, this was one of the largest dinosaurs of its day. Most older depictions show it on all fours due to its hefty forelimbs, but contemporary research suggests that it was bipedal like many of its relatives. This Riojasaurus’s colouration, crest and dewlap are
inspired by iguanas and anoles, with a subtle green/brown/orange pattern to blend in with tall foliage.
