Concavenator corcovatus
Watercolour, colour pencil. 2023.
This is a highly speculative reconstruction of the animal, and as such many details are fabricated.
A medium-sized theropod dinosaur that likely lived in swampy marshlands. Most notable are the tall neural spines bewteen the hips, which is restored here as a fatty hump rather than a sail as it is often depicted. This may have stored energy to help it survive during dry periods, and aided in social signalling. Quill knob-like structures have been found on the arms, and so I have restored this animal with elongated quills on the arms and an emu-like shaggy coat.
